Chandigarh, October 5

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) delegation on its way to Lakhimpur Kheri to offer condolences to the families of the martyred farmers; victims of the government hooliganism, was stopped and detained by the Uttar Pradesh police and administration at Nighasan police check post. The delegation, led by AAP Punjab affairs co-in-charge Raghav Chadha and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema, included MLAs Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Prof Baljinder Kaur and Amarjit Singh Sandoa; of whom Kultar Singh Sandhwan was deatined on his departure from Lucknow.

The AAP delegation was to reach the house of the deceased farmer in Banwaripur village first, but was stopped at a check post set up by Nighasan police station about 10 km from the village; where Raghav Chadha and other leaders had a heated argument with the police and civil authorities, after which the AAP leaders were detained. On the occasion Raghav Chadha said, “We have read in the pages of history that under dictator Adolf Hitler’s rule in Germany, the people were put to death in a gas chamber by releasing poisonous gas. Similarly, today in the country, the attempt to crush and trample the farmers was done by the Bharatiya Janata Party and its leaders.”

Raghav Chadha said that ever since the heart-wrenching video has surfaced, even the slightest doubt in the minds of the people for the BJP has been cleared. He said along with the BJP goons, the son of the Union Minister of State for Home mowed down the farmers and then fled from there. Chadha said the Punjab unit of the Aam Aadmi Party has demanded that the culprits, who committed the crime of mowing down the farmers, should be immediately arrested and put behind bars by the Uttar Pradesh Police.

He said the AAP’s second demand is that Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra should be sacked with immediate effect, as a fair investigation cannot be conducted till he is in the chair. In its third demand, the AAP sought that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi should go to the families of the aggrieved farmers and express their consolation by apologising to them and along with repealing the black laws, should announce the guarantee of MSP on all crops from there.

He said despite the distance of Lakhimpur being only 120 kilometers from the program Prime Minister Modi went to in Lucknow on Tuesday; Modi did not go there. Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema said that the farmers of the country have been fighting for a long time against the three black agricultural laws. In this movement, more than 700 farmers have been martyred; despite this the BJP is resorting to violence and killing the farmers.

The AAP delegation said that the Aam Aadmi Party will continue to fight for the farmers until all three black agricultural laws are repealed. While going to Lakhimpur, the AAP delegation was stopped midway by the police-administration.
