Moga, September 14: Crying foul over the large number of rejections and withdrawal of nomination papers in the zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections, AAP on Thursday accused the Congress leadership of misusing official machinery.
Party spokesperson Navdip Singh Sangha demanded the registration of cases against Congress MLAs Dr Harjot Kamal, Darshan Singh Brar and Kaka Sukhjit Singh Lohgarh and Youth Congress leader Kamaljit Singh Brar (Darshan Brar’s son) for allegedly threatening ADC Jagwinderjit Singh Grewal with dire consequences as the latter had refused to summarily reject the nomination papers of opposition candidates.
The SAD also demanded that the three MLAs and Kamaljit Brar be booked. Party spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said the ADC had shot off a complaint to the State Election Commission. “It has happened all over the state. Congress MLAs and leaders persuaded or threatened officials to obey their orders to reject potentially winning candidates of opposition parties in their areas,” Cheema alleged.
