Patiala, April 23:
In order to protect the wheat from rains in various mandis of Patiala district, the district administration through the procurement agencies had provided the requisite tarpaulins to keep the grains dry.
There were 3493 tarpaulins made available to protect the wheat grain from inclement weather in the previous days and from this morning’s rains.
District Food and Supply Controller Harsharanjit Singh Brar said that as per agency wise details, as amny as 1646 tarpaulins were distributed by Pungrain, 241 by Markfed, 1476 by Punjab Warehouse and 130 by PUNSUP. As a result, advance arrangements were made to protect the produce of the farmers from unseasonal rains.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kumar Amit said that all the procurement agencies were kept on high alert on case of such bad weather. Apart from that the arrangements made in advance as per the directions of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for the smooth and hassle-free procurement of wheat in the district and prevention of any damage to the wheat from inclement weather. Kumar Amit further said that although the current wheat season is at its peak now and will be completed in the next few days.
