Chandigarh, November 5: Senior Akali leaders courted arrest on Monday as they clashed with police while protesting outside Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s residence against what they called was “distortion” of Sikh history in school textbooks.
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia, and Member of Parliament Balwinder Singh Bhunder were among the Akali leaders placed under preventive detention.
Protesters tried to break down protective barricades installed outside the Chief Minister’s residence. Police initially failed to stop the marchers, but later parked buses in front of them, leading to scuffles with top Akali leaders.
