Around Rs 100 crore to be spent on beautification of Amritsar for G-20 Summit

Chandigarh, January 7: While conducting a review meeting of the preparations being made for the G-20 summit, the Local Government Minister Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar and the Public Works and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO issued instructions in a meeting with the district officials that all the work should be completed within fixed time and if any negligence on the part of any official in development works is found, he will not be spared.

Giving more information in this regard, Minister of Local Government Dr. Nijjar said that the G-20 summit is going to be held in the holy city of Amritsar in March 2023 possibly on 15 to 17 March 2023. Presidents and Prime Ministers of major countries and other  international delegates will also attend this G-20 summit.

He said that it is a matter of great pride for the state that this international level event is going to be held in Punjab. Dr. Nijjar while presiding over the meeting of the G-20 summit said that about 100 crore rupees will be spent on development works for the beautification of Amritsar City.

Local Government Minister revealed that with this international event, the state will emerge on the world tourism map, while at the same time there is a possibility of boosting investment.

Dr. Nijjar, giving details of the works to be done to strengthen the beauty and basic structure of the city, said that whatever works will be done in the city will be strong and good quality works according to the needs of the citizens.

The Local Government Minister directed the concerned officials that wherever the grills are broken on the way to BRTS, new ones should be installed immediately and the potholes on the way to BRTS should also be filled.

He also ordered the concerned officials to fix the traffic system of the city. He said that every possible efforts Will be done for the beautification of Amritsar city.

Addressing the meeting, Minister of Public Works and Power Harbhajan Singh ETO directed the officials of the electricity department to immediately remove the illegal cable wires attached to the government electricity poles. He said that these wires have a very bad effect on the image of the city and electric nets are spread at various places so these electric wires on the roads should also be fixed properly.

He also directed the Public Works Department that the illegal encroachments on PWD lands should also be removed immediately.

After the meeting, the Ministers also visited the route decided during the G-20 summit and also gave instructions to the officials about the work to be done at different places. In this meeting, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Mr. Sandeep Rishi, Chairman District Planning Committee Mr. Jaspreet Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner Urban Development Mrs. Amandeep Kaur, SE. S: Inderjit Singh, Xen S: Inderjit Singh, Chief Engg: PSPCL Bal Krishan, Deputy Chief Eng: Jatinder Singh, Eng: Rajiv Parashar, Eng: Jagjit Singh, Eng: Balkar Singh and other district officials were also present in the meeting.
