ASHA workers flay govt for not keeping poll promises

Date:

Abohar, May 3: Hundreds of ASHA workers under the aegis of the Punjab State Karamchari Dal organised a rally at Nehru Park here on Wednesday, seeking fulfilment of their demands that include salary hike and promotion.

District president Neelam Rani warned that the workers would wait for government response on their demands for a few days, but certainly not for an indefinite period. “Our services should be at par with other government employees. We should get full pay scale. Our seniority list should be prepared and deserving employees should be promoted to the position of auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM),” she said.

“We take Health Department campaigns to each house in rural and urban segments, but the government pays us very less,” she added.

The ASHA Workers Union said the promises made during the Vidhan Sabha election campaign had not been fulfilled even after completion of more than a year of the government. The issues that the previous government kept in limbo should be resolved on priority, the union demanded.
