Bhai Ghanaiya Sehat Sewa Scheme launched, 1.42 lakh members enrolled

Chandigarh, March 17: Punjab Cooperation Minister S. Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Tuesday launched Bhai Ghanaiya Sehat Sewa Scheme (BGSSS) here in his office at Punjab Civil Secretariat.

The scheme would immensely benefit members of Cooperative Societies, the working and retired employees of Cooperation Department, their dependants besides account holders of state Cooperative Banks.

S. Randhawa, who is also the chairman of Bhai Ghanhya Trust, informed that the trust had signed an agreement with New India Assurance Company and MD India Health Insurance TPA Pvt. Ltd. for implementation of the Bhai Ghanhya Sehat Sewa Scheme for 2020-21.

Divulging details, S. Randhawa said that as per the agreement premium for main member is Rs. 2714 (including GST) and premium for each dependent is Rs. 679 (including GST). Nearly 1.42 lakh members have already enrolled under this scheme and those who have not yet applied for enrolment may contact the concerned cooperative societies/ cooperative institutions immediately to become members under the Scheme, he added. 

Listing the unique features of this scheme Cooperation Minister said that Tertiary care health services upto Rs. 2.0 lacs on family floater basis are available under the scheme. Persons having pre-existing disease can become member of the scheme.

No medical check-up is required before enrolment as member of the scheme. He said that Cashless treatment in empanelled network hospitals in the State of Punjab and Chandigarh. Treatment in government hospitals is on reimbursement basis.

An amount of Rs. 2100 is given as gift to the member of the scheme on the birth of a girl child. Cashless insurance is provided to newly born baby till he/she attains six month of age. E-card facility has been provided to the beneficiaries.

The Minister further said that this scheme is meant to provide health services to the members and employees (serving as well as those who have served at any point of time or retired) of the eligible cooperative societies, Department of Cooperation Punjab, Bhai Ghanhya Trust, Saving bank account holders of Cooperative Banks in the State of Punjab and their families, who are below 75 years of age, across the State of Punjab and Chandigarh.

On this occasion, Randhawa personally handed over insurance cards to 11 beneficiaries.

Registrar Cooperative Societies cum Deputy Chairman Bhai Ghanhya Sehat Sewa Scheme Mr. Vikas Garg said that this scheme was launched for the first time in 2006 and since then it has been providing health services smoothly. Under the scheme more than 3 Lac members have taken treatment so far amounting to Rs. 268 crores approximately.

Additional Registrar (G) cum CEO Bhai Ghanhya Trust Mr. S. K. Batish said that the patients after treatment are intimated through SMS about the amount of treatment taken and the balance sum insured.

He said that a toll free number 1800-233-5758 has also been provided for the facilitation besides seeking any other information by the members of the scheme. Beneficiaries can also download their e-Cards from the website mdibgsssweb.mdindia.com.

Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included MLA S. Barindermit Singh Pahra, DGM, New India Assurance Company Mrs. Raj Kumari, Associate Director, MD India Health Insurance TPA Pvt. Ltd Mr. Sanjiv Bansal.
