Chandigarh, October 7:
Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was the founder of first Sikh Kingdom who took up cudgels against the tyranny of the then Mughal empire and paved the way for a rule based on people’s welfare. He also ensured that the cultivators get the ownership rights of the land they cultivate. These views were expressed here today by the MLA Khanna Gurkirat Singh Kotli who was the Chief Guest on the occasion of releasing a book chronicling the life and philosophy of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
Also addressing the gathering, the President of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur International Foundation and Chairman PSIDC Krishan Kumar Bawa said that the sacrifice of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur is unparalleled in the annals of Sikh history and he occupies a place of prominence in the history of this nation. The 350th Parkash Purb of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur would be commemorated with all the religious fervor, revealed Krishan Kumar Bawa who also thanked the Punjab Government for declaring a gazette holiday on the 16th of October i.e. the Birth Anniversary of the legendary Sikh personality.
The martyrdom of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur imbues us all with the spirit of sacrifice in the defence of a just cause, said Ex Minister Malkit Singh Dakha in his address.
Eminent theatre artist Nirmal Jaura while compeering the program gave an overview about the book and the foundation. The President Chandigarh Chapter of the foundation Harinder Singh Hans, Chairman Jagmohan Singh Brar thanked all those present.
The first copy of the book was presented to Noted Journalist Baljit Parmar.
Among others present on the occasion included Editor of the Book Principal Dr. Kuldip Singh, Umrao Singh Chhina, Organizing Secretary Amandeep Bawa, Pushpinder Sharma, Bikram Singh Ghuman, Bawa Ravinder Nandi, Gagandeep Bawa and Arjan Bawa.
