Chandigarh, May 8: The newly expanded Cabinet, at its first meeting on Tuesday, is expected to discuss the recommendations of the sub-committee on mining.

It may take some time before a formal policy on mining is approved by the Cabinet as all ministers in the sub-committee are not in favour of a Punjab Mines and Minerals Development Corporation, it is learnt.

Capt Amarinder Singh on Monday said the Cabinet would take a call on the recommendations made by the sub-committee on mining. The report has been handed over to the Chief Minister by Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.

The Cabinet is expected to discuss the policy on regularisation of illegal structures in the MC areas. Under the one-time settlement scheme, beneficiaries will have to pay a certain amount for their illegal structures.

Sources said an agenda for transferring wheat from Pungrain to the Agriculture Department was also expected to come up for discussion. Besides, the issue of amendments to the Punjab Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) Act, 1952, that prohibits elected representatives from holding any “office of profit” is likely not be tabled.
