Chandigarh, January 19: Calling resignation of Irrigation and Power Minister Rana Gurjit Singh as “too little too late”, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Thursday said the Congress could only wash the taint of the sand mining scam by registering a criminal case against him.
The party also sought cancellation of all tenders of mines allotted to Congress legislators.
In a statement here, former minister and SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Cheema said, “Criminal matters like the sand mining scam should be dealt with on merit by the CM. How can government files be shared with Rahul Gandhi? Only party matters can be taken up with the Congress high command.”
Dr Cheema said the government’s will to take action against the sand mining scam accused had become questionable after these developments.
The state unit of the BJP in a press note said Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh accepting resignation of the tainted minister following orders from party president Rahul Gandhi only proved that all allegations against him were true.
Questions shifting of ‘surplus’ teachers
Chandigarh: The SAD on Thursday condemned the government’s decision to shift teachers “arbitrarily” from middle schools, saying this would adversely affect the studies of schoolchildren. party spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said the government had told the schools heads to shift their surplus staff to the schools facing staff crunch. In reality, giving away teachers would mean academic loss at the places from where they were withdrawn.
