Capt Amarinder warns of seriousness of terror threat to state

CHANDIGARH, May 10: Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today reiterated that Punjab was under continuous threat from forces inimical to the unity and integrity of the country and called for unified, coordinated and strong effort to nip the threat in the bud.

Reacting to the terror attack on Punjab Police intelligence headquarters in Mohali on Monday evening, he said, it was part of a series of recent developments like seizure of RDX, drugs sent through drones and arrest of few suspects during past few days.

Capt Amarinder warned against the designs of Pakistan’s ISI, saying it has never given up its intentions about Punjab and it will always seize any opportunity that it gets. He expressed concern over the ISI managing to rope in criminals and gangsters for subversive activities. He pointed out that there is a possibility of more weapons having landed in and more people getting involved who need to be identified.

The former Chief Minister also cautioned against the “inexperience” of the new government in Punjab and urged it to coordinate with the central government and various security agencies. “The state government should go to any extent and seek support and cooperation of everyone to save Punjab”, he said, while observing, “Punjab cannot afford another phase of turmoil after having paid a heavy price earlier”.

Capt Amarinder regretted that when in the past he had been continuously warning against the threats from terror groups from across the border, some of the Congress party leaders were irresponsibly dismissive about it. “Hope the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann takes the threat seriously and pulls all stops to ensure that nobody has the audacity to raise an evil eye at us”, he said while assuring full support and cooperation to the government in whichever way possible to meet the terror challenge.
