Chandigarh, May 7: Giving a fillip to Punjab Congress ahead of the Shahkot by-poll, two Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders from the constituency on Monday joined the Congress
in the presence of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh.
The Chief Minister welcomed SAD General Secretary Ravinder Singh Turna and former president NRI Sabha Punjab, Jasbir Singh Gill, into the Congress fold during a press conference here. The Chief Minister said their entry into the Congress would further galvanise the party cadre for the upcoming Shahkot by-election.
The Chief Minister said many SAD workers were feeling suffocated and disillusioned due to the autocratic functioning and the apathetic attitude of the top Akali leadership.
Former Punjab Chief Minsiter Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and MLA Kadian Fateh Jung Singh Bajwa were present on the occasion.
Bhattal said there was a race among Akali leaders to join the Congress, in view of their growing disillusionment with their party leadership.
