Chandigarh, May 29

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that those who promised to provide ‘Ghar-Ghar Rozgar’, after coming to power were abolishing government jobs; leaving the youth of Punjab jobless. He said that the decision of Captain Amarinder Singh’s government to abolish vacancies in Powercom, Health and other departments was reprehensible and the Aam Aadmi Party strongly opposes this decision. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Congress government had abolished lakhs of government posts in the name of restructuring of departments.

He said that ever since Captain Amarinder Singh took over as the Chief Minister, he had been working to get the people of Punjab working on government posts, out of jobs. Cheema said that the decision of Powercom to abolish a total of 720 posts including 446 posts from Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant, Rupnagar and 274 posts from Guru Hargobind Thermal Plant, Lehra Mohabbat, was very unfortunate. He said that earlier also 2,149 posts from Guru Nanak Thermal Plant, Bathinda and 1,000 posts from Guru Gobind Singh Super Thermal Power Plant, Rupnagar had been abolished. “The steps were being taken by the Captain government to hand over the power plants of Rupnagar and Lehra Mohabbat to private hands,” added Cheema.

The LoP further said that by abolishing the posts of 489 doctors in the health department, the Captain government had shied away from providing health facilities to the people. “While Captain Amarinder Singh was deceiving the people of Punjab by organising ’employment fairs’ in the state, he on the other hand, was squandering the money of the exchequer,” said Cheema. He questioned that when the Captain government had to provide jobs to the people by organising employment fairs, then why lakhs of posts in government departments were being abolished.

Cheema said that Captain Amarinder Singh was also following the path of the Union government. “That is why the Congress government is pushing for privatization of state-owned government assets,” he added. The AAP leader said that in the last four-and-a-half years, Captain Amarinder Singh had not been able to provide government jobs to one lakh youth of Punjab, but now he was planning to provide one lakh government jobs in next six months. “Why doesn’t Captain Amarinder Singh issue appointment letters directly to those who had filled up job forms before the 2017 elections?” questioned Cheema.
