Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab is launching an awareness campaign with the objective of creating an environment with inspires grater public confidence about elections. The icons who are inspiring individuals belonging to various fields like singer, writer, sports persons, leaders of transgender, social worker etc, are being roped in to create an impactful communication with public.
Today a virtual meeting was held with the district level icons for election. Icons of all the 22 Districts participated and had a lively interaction with Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Ms Madhvi Kataria. All the icons introduced themselves and their areas of expertise and committed to join hands with the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab in its efforts towards creating an engaged and informed citizenry for free and fair elections.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said that elections in Punjab are due in 2022. Chief Electoral Officer Dr. S. Karuna Raju, IAS has directed that this intervening period should be utilized and a campaign against the corrupt practices that undermine the electoral roll system be spearheaded and wide spread awareness about importance of election be created. There is a dire need to create a congenial atmosphere in which political parties, candidates and general public participate in a healthy way. The participants were briefed about the areas in which cooperation of the district icons was solicited. 100% registration of eligible voters in Punjab with special focus on new young voters, persons with disabilities, third gender, migratory labour, homeless and Indians voters residing oversees. Awareness about Summary Revision and other aspects of election process has to be created. To empower the icons for effective messages and communication with public. audio-video and written materials shall be prepared by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab and shared with icons shortly. Detailed action plan shall soon be chalked out and the icons will be actively involved in their execution.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab said as part of this wide campaign, various events are being planned and the social media activities have been accelerated. The icons pledged to respond and cooperate with all the activities planned by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer and help create a robust democracy.
