Chandigarh, March 21: The Class XII mathematics paper of the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) was put off following reports of a leak before its commencement on Tuesday.

Chairman of the PSEB Manohar Kant Kalohiya said, “The paper will now be conducted on March 31. Secretary Hargunjit Kaur has been assigned the task to look into the reasons behind the leak and trace the source.

”The board did not have any lead to possible source of leakage till the filing of the report, except WhatsApp messages of the copy of the paper.A message from the board seeking postponement of the 2 pm paper by an hour just before the exam began led to a chaos. The schools were sent a circular saying, “The paper scheduled for Tuesday should not be opened. All Regional Examination Controllers will get fresh papers via email.

They should take printouts and send sealed envelopes to all schools.”Students waited haplessly at many centres where the controllers concerned failed to ensure the supply of papers on time “due to paucity of adequate resources with certain controllers”.

A senior principal in Sangrur district said, “Delay in getting question papers caused a lot of anxiety among students as well as teachers.”Kalohiya said, “We cancelled the paper as students as well as schools were getting harassed in the process of delay in receiving copies of the new paper. The issue is serious and will be investigated thoroughly.” More than 3.15 lakh students are appearing in the Class XII examination of the PSEB this year.
