Chandigarh, June 25:
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann today exhorted the people to follow teachings of legendary Sikh warrior Baba Banda Singh Bahadur as a real tribute to the iconic hero.
The Chief Minister, who paid floral tributes to the legendary warrior on his martyrdom day here at Punjab Vidhan Sabha, said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s rare sacrifice laid the foundation of establishing the first Sikh Raj way back in 1709. He said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur also issued commemorative coins in the name of Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji and Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. Above all, Bhagwant Mann said that Baba Banda Singh Bahadur was a true champion of oppressed sections of the society especially the farmers upon whom he bestowed the ownership rights thereby abolishing the Zamindari system.
Seeking inspiration from Baba Banda Singh Bahadur’s great philosophy, the Chief Minister said that our government is committed for taking pro-poor and farmer friendly initiatives to improve upon their lot in its own humble way. Bhagwant Mann said that he defeated Mughal Governor Wazir Khan, to avenge the martyrdom of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s four Sahibzadas and Mata ji, as well as the massacre of thousands of innocents. He exhorted the people to imbibe the ideology of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, who dedicated his life as a devout Sikh of Guru Gobind Singh ji to safeguard the rights of the unprivileged sections of society.
On the occasion Speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha Kultar Singh Sandhwan also paid tributes to Baba Banda Singh Bahadur. He recalled the valour and supreme sacrifices made by Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.
