Chandigarh, April 16: The Punjab Congress Bhawan got a boost of energy on Tuesday with Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh holding a series of meetings with party MLA and workers, and welcoming new members into the Congress fold ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

The Chief Minister welcomed Parminder Mehta from Ludhiana back into the Punjab Congress, and also oversaw the joining of Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra, who had contested as an independent candidate in the 2017 Assembly polls from Sanour assembly seat in Patiala Parliamentary constituency. Harmeet’s entry will help boost the Congress in Patiala, said the Chief Minister.

The Congress in Punjab continued to ride the high wave, inspiring many people to join in the run-up to the parliamentary elections, said Captain Amarinder, exuding confidence of a sweeping victory for the party in the state.

Captain Amarinder was accompanied by PPCC Election Management Committee Chairman Lal Singh, Cabinet Minister Brahm Mohindra, Gen. Sec Incharge PPCC, Capt. Sandeep Sandhu and Member Hira Sodhi.

Further bolstering the party’s prospects, the Balmiki Samaj, led by MLA Dr. Raj Kumar Verka, also met the Chief Minister to extend their unconditional support to the Congress. The Balmiki Samaj had full faith in Captain Amarinder’s leadership and wanted to strengthen his hands against the divisive and anti-people forces in the state, said Verka. The Chief Minister said his government was committed to the welfare of all sections of the society, particularly the underprivileged, and had already initiated a series of measures for their betterment. The Congress, under Rahul Gandhi, was all geared up to work for the upliftment of the disadvantaged segments, he added.

Interacting with MLAs from Faridkot Parliamentary constituency and workers from various districts, Captain Amarinder exhorted them to go all out to ensure that the Congress candidate in their constituency wins hands down, with an impressive margin. He asked the MLAs and workers to take the development agenda of the Congress government in Punjab down to the last voter, and create awareness among the people on the need to bring the party home at the Centre with a thumping majority to bring the nation’s growth back on track.

The Chief Minister calling for constructive and positive campaigning, while, at the same time, urging the party workers and MLAs to aggressively and effectively counter the false propaganda being spread by other parties to mislead the voters. He called upon them to reach out to every single voter to negate the disinformation campaign of the Akalis and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which, in the absence of any positive agenda, were stooping to chicanery to woo voters.

In an informal chat later with mediapersons, the Chief Minister said the decision of Harbans Kaur Dullo w/o Congress Rajya Sabha MP Shamsher Singh Dullo, to join AAP would have no impact on the Congress. Harbans had won in 2002 polls but lost in 2007, and had since been in political oblivion with no connect with the people, he added.
