Cong does not want to give justice to people of Punjab on issues of sacrilege, Kotkapura firing and drugs: Cheema

Chandigarh, November 15

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema alleged, “The Congress government does not want to give justice to the people of Punjab on the issues of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Kotkapura firing and drugs; as the government is using these issues only as ‘election affairs’. That is why the Congress government is running away from appointing the Advocate General of Punjab.” He said that a Punjab benevolent, honest and senior advocate should be made Advocate General of Punjab as soon as possible to give justice to the people of Punjab.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Monday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the ongoing tussle between the Congress party and the Channi government was in the public knowledge and due to the infighting between Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Congress state president Navjot Singh Sidhu, Advocate General is not being appointed by the Punjab government; due to which the cases of the Punjab government in the Supreme Court, Punjab and Haryana High Court and district courts of the state, are not being pursued.

He alleged that the Congress government was making claims and promises to the people of Punjab that justice would be done to the people of Punjab in cases of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib, Kotkapura firing and drug cases; but the reality is that when the government does not even have an Advocate General, who will go to the courts and pursue these cases? How will the court cases be won without an AG? How will the people of Punjab get justice?

The AAP leader further said that the infighting between the Congressmen was harming the interests of Punjab and the Congress government was misleading the people of Punjab on the issue of sacrilege, firing and drugs. If the intention of the Congress was to deliver justice, it would have arrested the culprits and conspirators during over four-and-a-half-years of its rule. Cheema said the investigation report submitted by top police officials in the drug case had identified the ‘drug kingpin’, but the Congress government was not arresting the culprits on the pretext that the inner workings of the Congress leaders were also linked to the drug kingpin.

Challenging the Channi government, Harpal Singh Cheema said that if the government really wants to give justice to the people of Punjab in cases of sacrilege, firing and other drug related cases; then any Punjab benevolent, honest and senior advocate should be immediately appointed as Advocate General Punjab; so that the people of Punjab can know the performance of the Channi government.
