Pathankot, March 29: Pathankot Mayor Anil Vasudeva from the BJP sustained injuries when some Congress councillors threw glass bottles and plates at him in the Municipal Corporation (MC) House meeting on Wednesday.
Crockery items meant to serve tea and placards became missiles as the Mayor had a harrowing time defending himself. Vasudeva sustained injuries on the chest.SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said he had sent his men the moment he learnt of the situation. “We have not received any complaint so far. We will act once we get a written complaint,” said the SSP.
At the time of filing this report, the Mayor accompanied by BJP councillors had reached the division no. 1 police station to lodge a complaint. Earlier, Vasudeva underwent a medical examination at the civil hospital.
An unsavoury situation developed when Congress councillors alleged that the meeting to discuss the budget was just an eyewash “as the Mayor had deliberately leaked the budget to a vernacular daily a few days ago.”The spark was provided when Congress councillor Vibhuti Sharma said, “The Mayor has performed an unconstitutional act by leaking the budget to the media.
”After the Mayor left the venue, Congress councillors started claiming that many among them were also hurt. They were contemplating filing complaints with the police.”The behaviour of Congressmen is unacceptable.
They crossed all limits today. After the budget got leaked in a Hindi newspaper, I had marked an inquiry. What is my fault if a clerk leaked the proceedings? This is a conspiracy against me by senior Congressmen of the city.
The role of sitting Congress MLA Amit Vij in provoking his councillors should also be probed,” alleged the Mayor.The MC Commissioner could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
