Congress and Akali Dal withhold proofs in sacrilege cases to shield perpetrators: Finance Minister Cheema

Date:

Chandigarh, July 7: Blaming the previous governments for shielding accused of sacrilege cases by withholding proof against them, Finance Minister Harpal Cheema on Thursday said that Congress and Akali Dal never wanted to deliver justice to the people of Punjab in these sinful cases.

“Sacrilege case in Malke village reported in 2015 during SAD government even Congress formed the government on the promise of delivering justice in it. However, they did nothing during their regimes. It is only AAP government led by CM Bhagwant Mann ensured that accused should get deserving punishment,” Cheema said while addressing a press conference here.

Welcoming the judgement of the Moga Court for giving three-year imprisonment in a sacrilege case to three people, Cheema said that the AAP government is committed to delivering justice to Punjabis in all Sacrilege cases.

Cheema said that Congress and Akali Dal were in cahoots and have been covering up each other’s crimes for decades. But AAP government broke this nexus and now the accused will get exemplary punishments for their crimes.
It was because of the shoddy investigation due to vested interests of Congress and Akali Dal leaders, previous governments never pursued Sacrilege cases gingerly and they did not submit all proof in courts against the accused to protect them.

Unlike the previous governments, AAP-led by CM Mann government speeded up the investigation in all sacrilege cases and CM Mann personally ensured that these cases must be taken to logical ends, added Cheema.

Pertinently, pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found on the streets of Malke village in this district in 2015 and later a case against unidentified persons was registered at Samalsar police station.
