Batala, August 3: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday alleged that Congress men had now started usurping land of gullible defence personnel who were posted at far away places. He presented a serving Army man on the stage whose “commercial land has allegedly been grabbed by the PA of a sitting Congress MLA”.

Addressing a rally as part of “Jabar Virodhi Lehar”, organised by Batala MLA LS Lodhinangal, Sukhbir asked Jaspal Singh, who is deployed with the 662 Army Aviation Squadron in Jammu, to narrate his tale of woes.Jaspal, a resident of a village falling under Chola Sahib police station in Tarn Taran district, alleged that on July 24, the PA of Khadoor Sahib Congress MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki allegedly took possession of his 17-kanal plot by force.Jaspal said his father approached the officials of the district administration the next day, but to no avail. Later, he took up the matter with former minister Bikram Majithia and Lodhinangal who, in turn, took up his case with the Shiromani Akali Dal chief.Sukhbir then rang up the Tarn Taran SSP and told him that if the land was not returned to the rightful owner, he would stage a protest rally in front of the police headquarters in Tarn Taran.“The Congress men have now started a dangerous trend. They hire henchmen who identify agricultural and commercial land belonging to defence personnel posted at far away places. Then they either prepare fake papers or grab the land using force. This is what happened with Jaspal Singh. I have told the state government to get the land vacated in 48 hours or face protest,” said Sukhbir.Sikki could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
