Chandigarh, March 1: The Punjab School Education Board ordered a re-examination at four centres in Majha — Khemkaran, Valtoha, Kutcha Pucca and Mastgarh — after invigilation team detected mass copying in the Class XII examination that commenced today.
Approximately 1,800 students appearing as private candidates at the centres in government schools will have to appear in the exam once again.
An order to this regard was passed by Secretary, School Education, Krishan Kumar, who was himself leading the team at these centres. It has been learnt that the secretary faced opposition from candidates’ families and friends at many places and had to be rescued.
The car of Principal Jagwinder Singh Lahiri, who was in the flying squad accompanying the secretary, was badly damaged.The invigilation staff at several other centres, too, faced a lot of opposition.
DGP Suresh Arora is also learnt to have been communicated about the unpleasant development at several centres. He immediately sent special officers to handle the situation.
Meanwhile, teachers at certain places protested against their random duties. Manjinder Singh, district president of the Master Cadre Union (Tarn Taran) said, “We have told the DEO that we will not be reporting for duty, particularly in the border belt, from tomorrow onwards.
There is no security for teachers. Specially, women teachers travelling long distances have no security. In case adequate arrangements are not made for teachers’ security, we will boycott our duties.
”Reliable sources said a large number of private candidates managed to get government schools in these areas as their centres under the changed norms by giving wrong addresses of their residences.
