Corruption-free, accessible governance at tehsil level a priority: Brahm Shankar Jimpa

Mr. Bram Shanker Jimpa, on Thursday, assumed the charge as Minister of Revenue, Rehabilitation and Disaster Management, Water Resources and Water Supply & Sanitation here at Punjab Civil Secretariat-1.

After taking the charge of the allocated portfolio, Mr. Jimpa said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Punjab Government is committed for the welfare of all sections of the society and now a new era of development would be started in the state. He said that corruption will be rooted out to provide corruption-free, transparent, responsible, accountable and easy accessible governace at Tehsil level to the common people.

Giving details about future plans, the cabinet minister said that his primary objective is to increase the efficiency of government offices so that the common citizens could have easy access to the desired services. “Good governance will be ensured at tehsil level offices of the Revenue department and the revenue record will also be translated for convenience of people”, he added.

Expressing gratitude towards AAP high command and the Chief Minister of Punjab S. Bhagwant Mann for giving him the opportunity to serve the people as a Cabinet Minister, Mr. Jimpa assured that he would try his best to fulfill aspirations of the people and no stone will be left unturned for the holistic development. The functioning and efficiency of all the departments with me would be improved so that common man does not face any problem in government offices.

The Minister said that prime focus of the state government would be laid out to save the natural resources of the state. He added, the concerted efforts will be made for the conservation of ground water and the government would push for rain water harvesting projects on larger level, saying that Punjab Government will also look into the possibilities of converting ordinary power pumps into solar powered pumps of water supply schemes to reduce the burden of power bills. He also urged the people of Punjab to keep faith in their government as these ambitious projects could take some time for proper implementation and positive results.

Notably, Mr. Jimpa, who became an MLA from Hoshiarpur by defeating former Industry Minister Sunder Sham Arora, was Vice Chairman of PSIDC and he also remained four-time councillor from 2003 to 2022 consecutively in municipal committee, Hoshiarpur.

Family members of the cabinet minister, Additional Chief Secretary-cum-FCR Mr. Vijay Kumar Janjua, Secretary Revenue Mr Manvesh Singh Sidhu and other officials of the government were also present on the occasion.
