Day after Shahkot polls, ex-SHO Bajwa gets bail

Date:

Jalandhar, May 29: A day after the Shahkot bypoll, former Mehatpur SHO Inspector Parminder Bajwa, who had got an FIR registered against Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia, got bail from the district courts here on Tuesday.

Bajwa was arrested on May 11 when he had entered the courtroom of District and Sessions Judge SK Garg for carrying his weapon. He was booked under the Arms Act, besides Sections 353 and 186 of the IPC for allegedly obstructing the court security staff from discharging their duties.

His wife Simarjot Bajwa appeared in the court on Tuesday and furnished a surety of Rs 50,000.

His lawyer had contended before the court that they wanted Bajwa’s treatment to be undertaken at a good hospital. Bajwa was found to be suffering from bipolar disorder when he was admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

New Baradari SHO Balbir Singh said, “The bail orders came on Tuesday, but we will be able to release him on Wednesday morning.”

Dr Nirdosh Goel, head of the psychiatry department at the Civil Hospital, said, “The board of doctors, under whom Bajwa is taking treatment, will meet on Wednesday and decide whether he can be discharged or not.” They, however, added that his problem of alcoholism and bipolar disorder had been largely treated.
