Defying Delhi, AAP activists turn out in large numbers

Date:

Bathinda, August 2: Not giving in to the AAP leadership’s diktat that participation in MLA Sukhpal Khaira’s convention would be considered as “anti-party”, volunteers turned up in large numbers from different parts of the state to support the dissident AAP MLAs and their demand for autonomy to the state unit.

Talking to The Tribune, Tarlok Singh, an AAP volunteer from Lalpura village in Tarn Taran, said: “Punjab is the only state that sent four AAP MPs to Parliament, but the AAP leadership in Delhi kept on imposing its decisions on the state unit. The party would have won the 2017 Assembly elections had there been no interference of Delhi leaders. We support the Khaira group in their demand for autonomy.”

Resenting the party decision to change Leader of Opposition, Jarnail Singh from Tarn Taran said the leadership should know that the horses could not be replaced in the middle of the race. Pal Singh from Pitho village said Khaira was doing well by raising their issues in the Assembly.

Rajinderpal Singh of Siriewala village said the state unit should be given a free hand for taking a decision in matters concerning Punjab. Balvinder Singh of Sangrur said people of Punjab were still looking for the third alternative and Khaira could do it.
