Delhi SAD compliments Sidhu, Rahul Gandhi on Kartarpur project, condemns media role

Date:

New Delhi, December 1: Shiromani Akali Dal Delhi on Friday praised Congress chief Rahul Gandhi for allowing Punjab Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to push for the Kartarpur corridor.

SADD president Paramjit Singh Sarna said in a statement that “Sidhu came out shining in giving voice to Sikh sentiments and emotions around Sri Kartarpur Sahib”.

“Clearly, Congress president Rahul Gandhi worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the Punjab minister freely expresses what the Sikh faithful collectively feel about a free passage to their historical gurdwaras on that side of the border,” the SADD leader said.

The statement however condemned the press coverage of the groundbreaking ceremony in Pakistan as “sectarian-minded”.

“Journalists loyal not to objective reporting but to Nagpur’s contaminated ideology went berserk in their attempts to project Sri Kartarpur Sahib as a future hub of militancy. Themselves ultra majoritarian fanatics, they played front foot to the gallery of forces that nurse a diabolical grudge against India’s secular constitution,” the statement said.

“With their negative narrative on Sri Kartarpur Sahib through sectarian-minded journalists, forces in Nagpur have alienated the entire Sikh community, which will deliver its verdict democratically across the country in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections due next year,” the statement said. “On its part, the media has once again confirmed itself as an agent of Nagpur.”
