New Delhi, August 23: Veteran journalist and columnist Kuldeep Nayyar passed away on Wednesday night. He was 95.
Family sources said the cremation would be held at 1 pm at the Lodhi Road crematorium on Thursday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled his death in a tweet saying: “Kuldeep Nayyar was an intellectual giant of our times. Frank and fearless in his views, his work spanned across many decades. His strong stand against the Emergency, public service and commitment to a better India will always be remembered. Saddened by his demise. My condolences.”
He is survived by his wife, two sons and three grandchildren, including Mandira, a journalist.
Nayyar who turned 95 on August 14 was admitted to a private hospital a day later with congestion, a family member said.
“He kept working till the last and dictated his column before being admitted to the hospital,” his granddaughter Mandira told The Tribune.
Recalling his enthusiasm, she said he retained the eagerness of a cub reporter and wanted to know details of every development.
