Chandigarh, October 29: With 13 former bureaucrats, including those who retired long ago, “adjusted” in the Capt Amarinder Singh government over the last 19 months, resentment is brewing among senior party leaders, who are awaiting political appointments.
Among the recent appointments are Tejinder Kaur as Chairman, SC Commission; DP Reddy, Chairman, Punjab State Food Commission, and former DGP SK Sharma, member, Punjab Educational Tribunal.
Rajpal Singh, a senior backward class party leader, said there were many seasoned leaders who could prove asset for the party.
“While the government is appointing retired bureaucrats, it is not thinking about the leaders who have worked relentlessly for the party for many years. Prior to the Assembly elections, leaders who were denied ticket were assured of political postings, but nothing happened so far,” said a senior leader.
Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar said the leadership was aware of the matter and it would be addressed shortly.
Besides leaders who were denied the ticket, those who had lost the polls are also eyeing posts in boards and corporations. The appointment of MLAs on various positions has also been delayed as the Governor is yet to give his consent to The Punjab State Legislature (Prevention of Disqualification) (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
Sources said there were nearly 114 positions in boards, corporations and other government bodies that were to be filled from among party leaders.
So far, less than six leaders have been appointed. They include Lal Singh, Chairman, Mandi Board; Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Vice-Chairman, Punjab Planning Board; and KK Sharma, Chairman, Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC).
