Farmers awaiting for compensation neglected in din of elections by AAP govt : Mahila Kisan Union

Jalandhar, May 7 : The Mahila Kisan Union, a member of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, terming the Punjab Chief Minister as a ‘utter talkative’, said despite the public promise to provide compensation to the farmers affected by rain and hailstorm in the month of April itself, almost all farmers of Punjab are still deprived of due compensation, but Bhagwant Mann is busy seeking votes and holding roadshows in Jalandhar and other states instead of holding the hand of lakhs of suffering farmers of the state.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, Mahila Kisan Union president Biba Rajwinder Kaur Raju lamented that the higher officials of the revenue department were refusing to accept the Girdawari (Assessment) reports sent by the halka Patwaris regarding the compensation for the loss to Rabi crops and the public promises made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in this regard come as cropper to the affected farmers as they have not yet received even the single penny for damages ranging from 25 per cent to 75 per cent for the loss of wheat crop.

The woman farmer leader said that before winning assembly elections in 2022, Bhagwant Mann had given guarantees that the farmers would be given compensation at the rate of Rs 20,000 per acre even before the Girdawari report was received but as soon as the government was formed, Bhagwant Mann has gone back on these guarantees and other promises given to the farmers.

Biba Raju advised all the ministers and leaders of the AAP government including the Chief Minister that instead of false propaganda campaign through newspapers, TV channels and social media, they should actually work at the ground level and heal the wounds of the suffering public. The farmer leader said that even in Bhagwant Mann’s assembly constituency Dhuri, the sugarcane growers are continuously struggling to get their dues. He asked the leaders of Samyukta Kisan Morcha Punjab and all farmer organizations to give an ultimatum to the Punjab government to provide immediate compensation to the affected farmers in the state.
