CHANDIGARH, APRIL 4:
Punjab Forest Department has planned to raise the area under plantation up to 7000 hectares under Sub Mission on Agro Forestry Scheme and approximately 40 lakh plants will be planted by the farmers under this unique initiative.
Disclosing this here today Punjab Forest Minister Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharmsot said that the State Government and the Union Government have joined hands to provide financial assistance to progressive farmers of Punjab to encourage cultivation of trees in accordance with the Sub Mission on Agro Forestry Plan. Farmers would be provided 50 percent financial assistance over a period of 4 years in the ratio of 40:20:20:20 for plantation of saplings in their fields under this scheme. The assistance would be credited into their accounts.
Mr. Dharmsot said that Punjab is the leading State in implementing Sub-Mission on Agro-forestry. About 12994 Number of farmers have planted 149.45 lakh plants covering 18974.55 ha area. The State has provided financial assistance of Rs. 1447.41 lakh to the farmers since inception of scheme from 2016.
