Karnal, February 6: On the sixth day of their ongoing protest over the delay in the construction of a new co-operative sugar mill in place of the existing mill which started working in 1976-77, members of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) on Wednesday closed the main gate of the administrative office of the mill. They did not allow the employees to come out.

They threatened to block the Karnal-Meerut road on February 12, the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Kurukshetra, if their demand is not met.

Farmers led by Rattan Mann, state president, BKU, handed over a memorandum to the Chief Engineer. They said that the CM had laid the foundation stone of the mill on January 20 last year. Farmers have been staging dharna from February 1 and to show their resentment, they took out a procession in the mill on Wednesday.

At noon, they staged a dharna outside the administrative office of the mill, where the sugar mill MD sits. They closed the main door of the office and shouted slogans against the government. They did not allow the employees to go in or come out of the office for an hour.
