First Self Help Group Mela ‘Laado’ on October 23-24

Chandigarh, October 17: “The Social Security, Women and Child Development Department, Punjab in collaboration with the Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) would organize the First Self Help Group (SHG) Mela – ‘LAADO’ from 23rd to 24th October, 2019.”

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesman said that the ‘Mela’ would be held at Kisan Bhawan, Chandigarh from 11 AM-7 PM and the main aim would be to highlight the work of self help groups & women entrepreneurs of Punjab. The spokesman also added that the Self Help Groups from Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttarakhand and Gujarat would also participate in the Mela.

Divulging more, the spokesman said that the special attractions on the occasion would be  Hand Stitched Phulkari Work, Hnad Knitted Sweaters, Bags, Pickles, Ayurvedic Products, Handmade Sweets, besides original SEWA lucknow chikankari work, Hand woven linen saris from West Bengal, Hand Embroidered work from Gujarat and Organic Spices from Uttarakhand.

The spokesman also elaborated that training to self help groups would also be provided on the occasion and the entry would be free. Another unique aspect would be that the proceeds from the sale of products would directly go to the self help groups. The visitors would also get to savour the authentic Punjabi cuisine.
