Chandigarh, September 2: A 500-feet-long Jania breach near Lohian in Jalandhar was successfully plugged at 7am Monday.

Repair work in flood-ravaged state has been going on at a war footing and normal life has been restored in many areas. Respective district administrations have been carrying out regular fogging operations to prevent the spread of disease as a result of water stagnating in villages, especially the low-lying areas.

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has already set aside a total of Rs. 475.56 crore for the flood-hit districts and he has ordered officials to prepare comprehensive rehabilitation plans for the ravaged areas, including the works needed to be carried out post the relief operations.

While Rs. 242.33 crore is being used for the immediate infrastructure works/relief operations, another Rs. 233.23 crore will be provided in the short and long term, after proper damage assessment and planning, said an official spokesperson.

In Shahkot sub-division, Mobile Medical Unit (MMU) of the Punjab Health department are proving a blessing for the marooned people by imparting quality health services to them at their doorsteps.
