Pathankot, July 12: A 40-km stretch connecting Punjab with neighbouring Himachal and J&K is being four-laned at a cost of Rs 25 crore.
Once upgraded the road leading from Chakki till Katori Bangla via Dhar and Dunera will be rechristened National Highway-154 A.
Chakki, Dhar, Dunera and Katori Bangla fall in Pathankot district.
PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla said the work would start after July 31, the date on which tenders would be decided.
“The state’s connectivity will improve significantly and hence trade among all three states too will improve manifold. Right now, businessmen and tourists have to take a long detour to reach the neighbouring states.
Once the road is completed, travel time between Punjab, J&K and HP will be reduced. I am personally overseeing the project,” he said.
Singla on a recent visit to Pathankot had laid the foundations stone of the road in the presence of AICC state incharge Asha Kumari and PPCC chief and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar.
“The feasibility study has already been done following which a detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared. The road has already been sanctioned in the state’s annual plan of 2018-19,” he said.
The minister added that the Dunera-Saliali-Lehrun-Gaal stretch is also been upgraded at a cost of Rs 5.58 crore.
“This road is extensively being used by tourists and Army personnel after the construction of the overbridge on the Ravi,” he said.
