Chandigarh, September 11

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab has accused the Congress government of betraying its own employees. The AAP stated that the government was treating its employees on a step-motherly treatment and that the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh had betrayed the raw and ad hoc employees working in various departments of Punjab for a long time.

In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, MLA Principal Budh Ram accused Capt Amarinder Singh, stating that during the elections, Capt Amarinder had promised to regularise hundreds of raw and ad hoc employees in various government departments in the state; but even after four-and-a-half-years of the Captain government, it neither regularised them nor recruited new ones.

He said the Captain government should accept all the legitimate demands of these employees so that these employees posted in various departments can return to work. “The government should formulate a strategy as soon as possible to regularise its raw and ad hoc employees,” he added.

On the issue of old age pension, Principal Budh Ram said that the pension scheme closed in the year 2004 should be restored by the Captain government as soon as possible. He said that many cases including filling up of vacancies in government offices have been pending for a long time and due to the government’s negligence; even today the raw employees are waiting to be confirmed. Budh Ram alleged that the Captain government was harassing the employees in the name of 6th pay scale. He said the state government should give the right to the employees by implementing the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission as soon as possible.

The AAP leader further said that the government wants to end the employees’ strike by force, which is completely wrong. He warned that Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh should stop misusing the government machinery to suppress the peaceful protest of the employees over their legitimate demands and fulfill their demands at the earliest. He assured that after the formation of the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, the contract system will be abolished from the state and a policy will be formulated for permanent jobs on the lines of Delhi.
