Pathankot, June 4: The state government on Monday claimed it did not have sufficient security to protect the seven accused who appeared daily in the court of District and Sessions Judge, Dr Tejwinder Singh, in the Kathua rape and murder case.
In a written submission, the state government pleaded through ADGP (Prisons) that it would not be possible to provide security to the accused if they were lodged in the Pathankot sub-jail.
After this, J&K Special Public Prosecutor Santokh Singh Basra withdrew his application submitted a few days ago to the judge seeking shifting of the accused to the Pathankot prison.
The accused travel from the Kathua jail to the court in a J&K Police bus. The court proceedings commence at 1.30 pm daily and as per rules, they have to reach Kathua prison before 5 pm.
According to the Supreme Court order, the security of the accused is the responsibility of the J&K Police.
In another development, Ram Parsad Singh, chairman of Aakansha College, Mirapur, moved an application seeking anticipatory bail.
The judge will be deciding his application on Tuesday.
According to the charge sheet, one of the accused, Vishal Jangotra, a student of BSc (Agriculture) at Aakansha College, Mirapur (UP), was allegedly involved in the crime and later in connivance with Ram Parsad Singh, he “manipulated the record to prove his presence in the college on the day the crime occurred”.
Basra opposed the application saying, “Ram Prasad Singh helped Vishal Jangotra in fabricating an alibi by forging the attendance sheet.”
