Govt nod to amend master plans for industrial zones in Roopnagar, Banur

CHANDIGARH, DECEMBER 17: In line with the state government’s focus on industrial development, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday approved amendment to the Roopnagar Master Plan to facilitate development of an industrial zone along the Roopnagar-Chandigarh Road.

CONSTITUTES COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE ISSUES RELATED TO DENSITY AND FAR

Chairing the 39th meeting of the Punjab Regional and Town Planning Development Board, of which he is Chairman, Captain Amarinder Singh gave the go-ahead for issuing a public notice for inviting objections and suggestions from the general public in this regard. The approval has paved the way for the development of an Industrial Zone comprising Ban Majra, Mugal Majri, Bhago Majra, Chatoli, Mathrari, Adhrera and Chargeri villages.

Earlier, in a presentation on the proposed industrial zone near Roopnagar, Director Town and Country Planning Kavita Mohan Singh apprised the members of the Board that several industrial units already existed in this region and were facing issues in further expansion of their units.

According to an official spokesperson, the meeting decided to give the go-ahead for Industrial Zone in the Master Plan of Banur, to enable overall development of the industry in the region, due to its close proximity to the International Airport Mohali.

In another decision, Captain Amarinder Singh gave approval to amend the Kapurthala Master Plan for the development of a residential zone, that accommodate all the existing residential colonies opposite the Rail Coach Factory.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has constituted a committee comprising Principal Secretary Housing, Principal Secretary Local Government, CEO Invest Punjab and Director Town & Country Planning to look into the issues related to density and Floor Area Ratio after studying the existing models being followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka, in order to ensure holistic growth of real estate sector. The committee would also examine issues concerning expansion of existing industrial units, and explore modalities to provide cheaper land to the industries in view of the demand raised by certain industrialists during the recently concluded Progressive Punjab Investors Summit-2019.

Local Government Minister Brahm Mohindra, Housing and Urban Development Minister Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, PWD Minister Vijay Inder Singla, Chief Secretary Karan Avtar Singh, Financial Commissioner Revenue KBS Sidhu, Principal Secretary Local Government A Venu Prasad, Principal Secretary Housing & Urban Development Sarvjit Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Tejveer Singh, Financial Commissioner Rural Development and Panchayats Seema Jain besides CA Patiala Development Authority Surbhi Malik, CA GLADA PS Gill and CA Jalandhar Development Authority Bakhtawar Singh were present at the meeting.
