Chandigarh, February 24
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Senior Leader and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema while welcoming the decision of Hon’ble court to send Akali Dal Badal leader Bikram Singh Majithia to jail in drug case said, “Court’s decision is very much welcomed. Hon’ble court did what Punjab and Central government should have done years ago.” Cheema said that the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab would work to root out drug mafia from Punjab. It may be recalled that a Mohali court remanded Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia to jail till March 8, who was granted bail by the Supreme Court till February 23 in a drug related case.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that like the previous SAD-BJP government, the present Congress government has been openly protecting the drug lords and their notorious political leaders. He alleged that the Congress’s Channi government and Majithia had been using new tactics to dismiss the drug case with the help of each other. That is why the Congress government did not make public the STF report constituted by the Hon’ble High Court in the drug case and they were protecting drug mafia.
Harpal Singh Cheema said that Capt. Amarinder Singh, Congress government, Bharatiya Janata Party and Akali Dal Badal had been working together to bring down the law. The man (Bikram Majithia) who should have been in jail many years ago in the drug case, had to be thrown in jail by the Hon’ble court due to poor performance of previous governments and Punjab Police. He said that drug case against Majithia had been pending for a long time as Congress and BJP governments had not presented concrete evidence in the court.
AAP leader said that Punjab police had not even sought Majithia’s police remand from the court in the drug case, hence people no longer believed in the police investigation. It is now imperative that Majithia be questioned under the supervision of the Hon’ble High Court.
Cheema said that drug menace had been rampant in the 10 years rule of Badals and then in Congress rule and millions of youth had died due to drugs. Therefore, sending Bikram Majithia to jail will not solve the issue completely. Instead, the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab would take appropriate legal action against the political patrons of the drug mafia so that it can be rooted out for good. He said that the AAP government would not spare any politician or official who was involved in the drug mafia, even if he was a leader or MLA of Aam Aadmi Party.
