NEW DELHI: The Haryana government has imposed a curfew today in areas surrounding the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters in Sirsa, which will be searched as per orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The curfew will remain in place as long as the search operations continue. Tight security arrangements are also in place to prevent the kind of violence that occurred on the day Dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted of rape.

Meanwhile, a Dera Sacha Sauda spokeswoman “appealed to the followers to maintain peace” during the operations.

As many as 41 paramilitary companies, four Army columns, a SWAT team and a dog squad have been deployed for the search of the Dera premises. Police of four districts will also be part of the search operation. A bomb squad is accompanying officials and security personnel inside the premises, reported ANI. A total of 5,000 security personnel have been deployed in the district.

The entire ‘sanitisation’ process will be videographed and overseen by court commissioner AKS Pawar.  “A meeting has been held about the search operation that will begin on Friday. The duties have been assigned to various officials for the operation. We gave relaxation in curfew on Wednesday and Thursday,” said Sirsa deputy commissioner Prabhjot Singh.
