Health Minister asks DGP to provide adequate security for emergency services in civil hospitals

Taking serious note of the incident in which EMO Bhavneet Singh was shot during a scuffling between two groups on March 14 at the Emergency Department of Civil Hospital, Amritsar, the Health Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu has written to the DGP, Punjab Dinkar Gupta to provide security at emergency services during night.

Giving information about this, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that the Punjab Government is committed for safety and security of the officers and employees of the Health Department. He said that the DGP has been asked to take immediate necessary steps to setup permanent police posts/security staff/increase patrolling in Civil Hospital Amritsar and Tarn Taran after which the district police administration has deployed 8 personnel including a sub-inspector at Civil Hospital Amritsar.

He assured the PCMS Specialist Doctor’s Asociation Punjab that the rest of the civil hospitals in the state have also been provided security for the night emergency services and soon there would be permanent security arrangements in the civil hospitals so that doctors, medical and paramedical staff could discharge their duties to treat patients without any pressure.

On this occasion, Dr. Jaswant Singh, Dr. Vinay Bhagat, Dr. Baljit Kaur, Dr. Sanjeev Kamboj. Dr. Sandeep Gill, Dr. Bobby Gulati, Dr. Gagandeep Singh, Dr. Surinder Kaur and other senior doctors were present.
