Kullu, May 11: To provide better bus services to the people living in the remote areas of the state, the government will recruit 300 drivers within a month. This was stated by Transport Minister Govind Singh Thakur here on Friday. He said the result of the written examination for the recruitment of 1,235 conductors had been announced.
The minister was speaking after inaugurating a sub-depot of the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) at Ani in Kullu district. He also attended the closing ceremony of the four-day district level fair.
Thakur said after the setting up of the sub-depot in outer Seraj, the issue of shortage of buses would be resolved. He said a budget of Rs 2 crore had been earmarked for the construction of a bus stand at Luhri.
The minister also laid the foundation stone of a stadium to be constructed at a cost of about Rs 80 lakh. The minister said eco-tourism would be promoted at Jalori Pass. Provision of funds for fencing the Sirolsar Lake and development of road would be done by the Forest Department. Experts would explore the possibilities of starting adventure sports in the Bagha Sarahan area.
He also announced a grant of Rs 20 lakh for construction of a forest rest house and Rs 51,000 for the fair committee in Takrasi. He said the government was looking for a site to set up a gym at Ani.
Thakur said the Forest Department, as per the needs of the people, would launch a plantation drive in different areas of the state, which would also be a source of income for the locals.
Ani MLA Kishori Lal Sagar said the government had approved investment worth crores of rupees for the development of the area. Tenders had been invited for 12 new roads in the Ani Assembly segment.
Earlier, mela committee president and SDM Chet Singh, BJP block chairman Amar Thakur and general secretary Duni Chand Thakur also welcomed the Forest Minister and informed him about various activities conducted during the fair. The minister was accompanied by Karsog MLA Hira Lal, BDC president Anjana Bharti, BJP leader Gangaram Chandel and Yogesh Verma.
