Ropar, February 19: The ruling Congress and main Opposition party Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have decided not to hold a political conference at Hola Mohalla on March 1 even as the Shiv Sena — having miniscule presence in the district — has already announced to do so.
While the Congress has been avoiding the conference on the occasion for several years, the Aam Aadmi Party had held conferences during the past two years.
Now, only three parties, including Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and SAD (A), are scheduled to hold the conferences.
AAP leader and Ropar MLA Amarjit Singh Sandoa said that the party has decided not to use religious occasions to hold political activities. He said that AAP was against mudslinging during religious festivals.
Ropar Congress district president Vijay Sharma Tinku said that the party had been avoiding the political conference at Hola Mohalla earlier as well and he had no directions on holding it this time.
