Detroit, March 5: A semi-truck driver has been arrested in the US state of Detroit for trying to smuggle six duffel bags of cocaine on the ambassador bridge from Detroit to Canada.

According to the Detroit contraband enforcement team, US customs and border protection officials on the Detroit aside of the Ambassador bridge stopped and talked with Jagrant Singh Gill, driver of a commercial tractor and a trailer.

Driver Jagrant Singh Gill said he was “coming to Canada from Mariana, Indiana with a load of steel reels”. When in doubt officials asked Gill to park his truck.

During a search of the side storage compartment under the flatbed, he was asked to leave. Officers found several duffel bags in the truck. Inside the bag authorities found a plastic-wrapped bundle with various logos and numbers.

Gill was handcuffed and searched by the authorities. The suspected cocaine weighed 140.75 kg. Driver Gill claimed to the authorities that he did not know how the cocaine got into his trailer’s storage compartment.
