Jassi murder: 2 accused extradited from Canada after 19 years

Sangrur, January 24: The Sangrur police have taken the custody of Malkit Kaur Sidhu and Surjit Singh Badesha in the Jassi murder case from Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the New Delhi airport.

The police team led by SP Investigations Gurmeet Singh and DSP is completing all legal formalities. Both accused will be produced in the Sangrur court on Thursday evening.

Jassi murder case

Both were extradited from Canada on Wednesday night 19 years after the murder of Jassi, allegedly by contract killers. Earlier also, Punjab Police had tried to extradite the two in September 2017 but they succeeded in stalling their extradition. Jassi had married Mithu secretly in March 1999. In June, contract killers had allegedly attacked the couple, killing Jassi while Mithu survived.

Malkiat is the mother of Jassi while Badesha is her maternal uncle.

Following the development, Jassi’s husband Sukhwinder Singh Mithu thanked the Canadian government and hoped justice would prevail. “I had lost all hope. It has been 19 years. Now, I want to confront Jassi’s mother and ask her if our love was such a big crime. A false case was registered against me and I spent three years in jail in pursuit of justice,” Mithu said.
