Khaira as prop, Congress attacks Kejriwal for his silence on the issue

Date:

New Delhi, June 22: The Congress on Thursday slammed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his silence on the allegedly secessionist remarks made by his colleague and Punjab leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

In a tweet on Friday morning, Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar asked the Delhi Chief Minister why he had not initiated action against Khaira for his stand on Punjab Referendum 2020 and if not meeting Khaira personally was reprimand enough.

“ArvindKejriwal ji, Leader of your own legislative party in Punjab Mr. @SukhpalKhaira flagrantly supports secessionist demands and your idea of stringent action is ‘refusing to meet’ him? Plz don’t fool Punjab by excusing yourself from accountability!” Jakhar said.

The Congress recently said it would never stand by a party that plays soft on secessionist tendencies and urges.
Khaira’s remarks were one excuse the Congress used to not back his Delhi sit in at the L-G’s office.
The Congress offensive against AAP chief Kejriwal is calibrated and is meant to go beyond Punjab to neighbouring Haryana where AAP has decided to contest elections.

The Congress has been wary of the AAP and calls it the BJP’s shadow citing evidence that Kejriwal fights elections only in states where the Congress stands to gain.

In Delhi, the AAP captured the Congress vote base. In Punjab, the AAP queered the pitch for the Congress. In Haryana the AAP impact remains to be seen after the BSP and the INLD have announced a pre-poll Lok Sabha poll pact that will challenge the Congress the most.
