Chandigarh, February 27: Leader of the Opposition Sukhpal Khaira today demanded an inquiry by the CBI or a High Court Judge into the collection of ‘goonda tax’ at the Bathinda refinery.

Khaira alleged that the trail was leading to men close to Raninder Singh, son of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. He alleged that the company, Sam India Built Well, and Ashok Bansal, owner of RMC plant in Bathinda, had call records from Gurbaksh Dhillon intimidating them and claiming to have the backing of the powers that be to collect “goonda tax”.

Khaira claimed that if the CBI investigated “goonda tax” cartel, politicians named in the scandal and the owners of Sam India and Northern Logistics, it could establish the connection of Raninder and his close aide Pappi Adnia.

He alleged Aman Sidhu of Bangi Kalan village in Talwandi Sabo, who was allegedly managing the collection of the “goonda tax”, had contacted Adnia to keep his business flourishing.

He alleged there were reports that the authorities of the Bathinda refinery and construction company Sam India had been prevailed upon to allocate major sand and gravel work to Sidhu.
