Punjab Congress Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu has announced that he will sit on a hunger strike until the primary accused, Ashish Misra joins the police investigation.

Navjot Singh Sidhu was also detained at the Saharanpur border in Uttar Pradesh yesterday. Sidhu was accompanied by other ministers and MLAs on his way to Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district.

Meanwhile, days after the Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri violence which claimed eight lives, including four farmers, Union Minister Ajay Misra on Wednesday said that the car had lost balance after the driver was injured in the attack and ran over a few people present on the spot.

Reiterating his statement that son Ashish Misra was not present in the car, Ajay Misra has called for an unbiased probe into the incident. Ashish Mishra has also denied his involvement in the incident.

Four of the eight people who died in Sunday’s violence in Lakhimpur Kheri were farmers, allegedly knocked down by vehicles driven by BJP workers travelling to welcome UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to an event in the area.

Two BJP workers, Misra’s driver, and Raman Kashyap, a journalist working for a private TV channel, were also killed in the incident.
