Liquor contractor shot, Rs 5.5 lakh looted

Barnala, July 6: Two unidentified assailants shot dead a liquor contractor in the town near bus stand on Thursday night and fled with Rs 5.50 lakh.

The police have registered a case and started investigation.

As per information, deceased Himanshu Dania, who ran a liquor vend near bus stand in partnership with another local, was going back to his house around 11 pm after collecting cash from the vend along with his friend Sanjeev Kumar on a motorcycle. When they reached near Shani Dev Temple street, near bus stand, a bullet hit Dania in the head and he lost control over the motorcycle and both fell on the road.

“Both accused, who were on a motorcycle, took the cash bag and fled. I called the relatives of Dania and we took him to the Barnala Civil Hospital from where he was referred to the Dayanand Medical College (DMC), Ludhiana” said Sanjeev.

“Dania died in the Dayanand Medical College, Ludhiana. Primarily it seems to be a case of loot. But we are investigating all aspects and also checking the CCTV footage of the area to get clues about the robbers,” said Sukhdev Singh Virk, Superintendent of Police (Investigations), Barnala.
