Ludhiana cylinder blast: 3 days on, victims’ kin battle to get back to normal life

Ludhiana, May 1: Three days after a gas cylinder explosion took four lives and 30 are battling, the survivors’ kin are finding it difficult to get life back on track. Some families have their bread earners in the hospital battling for life, while the rest are still coming to terms with the tragedy.

It’s around afternoon with temperature hovering around 40°Celsius. An eerie silence prevails at the street no. 4 of New Samrat Colony at Giaspura.

The ill-fated house where the cylinder exploded is located in the middle of the street. The house is locked as all the five members of the family were caught by the fire. Sunita Yadav and her son Raj have passed away while Ashok Yadav, husband of Sunita and their two daughters Pooja and Kajal are battling for at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

A few metres away in the opposite lane, Vikas Singh, 32, was sitting outside his house. He is the brother of Yashwant Singh, 40, who is undergoing treatment at Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) and brother-in-law of Shashi Singh, wife of Yashwant, who was declared dead a day before.

Vikas was mourning the death of his sister-in-law and other who have been injured. While Vikas was talking to this correspondent, other residents gathered and shared how their life has changed after the incident.
