Malwa teachers hold protest, submit memo to minister

Bathinda, November 5: Buoyed by support from students of primary schools, their parents along with representatives of farmer unions, members of the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha from five districts of the Malwa region staged a protest in front of the mini-secretariat here on Sunday.

Later, as many as 400 protesters took out a march and submitted a memorandum of demands to Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal.

The teachers have been demanding cancellation of transfers ordered recently and regularisation of jobs without pay cut. Students raised slogans against the state government, demanded cancellation of transfers.

Resham Singh, president of the Democratic Teachers’ Front, said, “Our movement is getting the required momentum and until the government relents and revoke its decision of transfers, we will continue our stir.”

Harjot Singh, media coordinator of Manpreet, said, “Manpreet Badal can’t comment on it as the Education Department can only take action in this regard.
